Life in hell

April 22 A friend of a friend called to let us know that a horrible person abandoned more than 20 cats in and around an apartment where the walls were so soaked with urine that the smell was evident from more than 10 feet away. With permission from the landlord we broke down the wood covering the window and entered. What we found was a situation no animal should have to endure. Most of the walls were full of holes, dangling cords, and rotting pee-saturated wood. We called animal control who told us there was NOTHING they could do. We realized it was up to us. So we brought in our traps and have so far caught more than 12. Two were in the process of giving birth. We are told the "owner" of these cats killed the kittens whenever babies were born. We changed the locks on the doors so this person can not access any remaining cats, and we are hoping to catch the last ones over the next few days. All of these cats need vet care and spay/neutering. One's tail was a bloody stump down to the bone which we can only imagine must have been terribly painful for this poor kitty. The rest of the tail has been amputated and he is now recuperating. Our promise to these maltreated animals is that they will never suffer again. If you can open your home to a semi-wild, beautiful Persian cat, please contact us immediately. These are low-maintenance cats who will be perfectly happy to spend their lives under your bed, and want nothing more than a food and water bowl.

April 23 We trapped 4 cats tonight, and are nearly halfway through our first trailer park. Almost all cats are pregnant at this time, and many have fleas and other injuries we are treating. Several more cats crawled out of the walls of the decrepit apartment and were retrieved by us today. We have cats coming out of our ears!!!

Three more cats came out of the trailer park last night, and boy did I get a surprise when I checked the trap. A momma cat gave birth in the trap!!! I can't imagine how horrible it must have been to try to give birth inside a trap where movement is limited. Momma and her three babies now have their own room where she can nurse them in peace. After they are weaned and ready for adoption all of them will be spayed/neutered.
