From devil child to Daddy's Girl

When we took in 33 Katrina kitties in June, one litter was much different than the rest. The carrier with Winnie, Snoopy, & Brownie was full of hissing. Brownie was the worst. I figured these 3 brothers would be untamable. Winnie was ultimately released to a barn home in the fall. Snoopy was renamed Mr. Rub My Belly when he was successfully tamed. He was adopted twice but neither time were the adoptors willing to give him the adjustment time he needed. He was my little dolly, absolutely loving to have his tummy rubbed. He stood out from the other black cats with his soft fur and green eyes. I'm not sure he'll ever tire of being cuddled.

Despite how snotty Brownie was (I don't think any volunteer was able to touch him for 5 months), I spent a lot of time working on him. With a slow approach he would enjoy the rubbing and even lean into my hand. But who would adopt him? Any sign of noise sent him running and hiding. He clearly needed a quiet home and a lot of patience. Luckily the dad of 2 of our other New Orleans kitties spent time befriending him and it was a piece of cake to convince this couple to take Mr. Belly & Brownie.

So I'm laughing my way to the vet's office because few people try to microchip a semi-feral animal and I can't wait to see the look the staff gives me. Well it turned out the joke was on me because I found out Brownie is a GIRL!!! I'm convinced that's the reason behind most of her attitude.

After only 48 hours in her new home she was already exploring and getting pets on daddy's lap.
